Sharing our Non-Fiction MASTERPIECES!!
I am so proud of the work our class put into writing and publishing their non-fiction books. They are truly are a work of art! We had topics from soccer, how to care for a dog, making pancakes and riding a snowmobile! The students applied what they had learned throughout our non-fiction unit, including a table of contents, bold words, labels, captions and even a glossary! You will get them to keep at some point.
These are photos of our class sharing their published books with each other and with our 3rd grade buddies!

Reader's Theater
One of our reading groups practiced and performed a reader's theater play entitled, The Farflings from Farflung. It was a play about aliens coming to earth and learning about gravity. It tied in nicely with our recent study of space. Other groups were scheduled to perform as well. Unfortunately, school closed before we got to them. Once we are together again, we WILL perform those as well!!
Composing and Decomposing 2D shapes
We have begun our geometry unit in math. Students have explored 2D and 3D shapes; noticing them in their environment and becoming familiar with their attributes. We have also worked to "compose" and "decompose" shapes. For example, two squares = rectangle, 2 trapezoids = hexagon, and many triangles can be combined to make a larger triangle.
Chromebooks and Epic!
Recently, we learned how to log in to our chrome books and explored an app called, Epic Books.
Epic books contains countless books and videos for children to explore. It contains audio as well as "read to me" texts at all levels, both fiction and nonfiction. As a teacher, I can also assign books to a class and/or individual students.
In the materials you received on Friday, there is a sheet that explains how your child can log in to our class and start enjoying Epic from home. I will likely assign books in the coming weeks.
