Nearby Nature: Earthworms and Soil

Last week we got our hands in the dirt while exploring earthworms! We learned some of the parts of an earthworm and the four main components of soil (water, rocks, air, organic matter). We enjoyed a puppet show and then had a blast making our mud paintings!

During writerś workshop students have been publishing books like crazy! Once published, they are reading them to the class on our special Authorś Only Chair. Estimating and Measuring with Popsicle Sticks

This week we played around with the idea of estimating and units of measure. Students estimated various lengths around the classroom and then found the actual distance. We used popsicle sticks as our unit of measure. Next week we will use unifix cubes as our unit and compare the two. Why did it take more unifix cubes than popsicle sticks to measure the length of a friend?

What a day!
